Desktop FAQ

Quick answers to common questions.

Should I build a desktop app or a web app?
Desktop wins when you need offline first behaviour, fast keyboard data entry, printer or scanner hardware, or full control of the device. Web is better when users move between machines or your team is small. We will recommend the right one in the first call.
Do you support both Windows and macOS?
Most of our work is Windows, since that is where the operations teams live. We also ship macOS apps, usually with Electron or Tauri so the codebase stays single. We will pick the right runtime based on your users.
How do auto updates work?
We ship with a built in update channel. New versions are downloaded silently in the background and applied on next restart. You can stage releases to a beta group first, then roll out to everyone.
What about printer and barcode hardware?
We test with the real hardware your team uses. Thermal, dot matrix, and laser printers, barcode scanners, weight scales, cash drawers, biometric devices, RFID readers. If it speaks a common protocol, we can drive it.
How do you handle data backups and security?
Local data is encrypted at rest, with automatic snapshots and optional cloud backups every night. Code signed installers prevent tampering. Access is gated by user roles defined in the app.
Can the desktop app sync with a web or mobile version?
Yes. The most common pattern is desktop for the counter, web for the head office, and mobile for the owner. We design the sync layer so all three stay in step, even when one is offline.
